DeSalis ‘fifer’ as C Team Win Again!

GREAT MELTON C (25 points) beat KETTERINGHAM HALL A (2 points) by 8 wickets at Town Close in the Lucas & Fettes Norfolk League Division 6

A ‘fifer' in just 11 balls by Leo DeSalis and a solid 39 not out by Steve Clarke helped Melton make it three wins out of three for the C Team.  With rain threatening Melton skipper Mally Howard had no hesitation in inviting visitors Ketteringham Hall to bat after winning the toss and Daniel Hayward struck immediately, having Britton caught by Kevin Frazer at slip with the first ball of the match.  This set the pattern with wickets falling at regular intervals thereafter.  Hayward (5-1-10-1) and Tom Smith (5-2-12-1) both bowled good opening spells and Michael Farmer (5-2-16-2) and Frazer (6-0-25-1) both made further inroads into the Ketteringham Hall batting before Leo DeSalis was brought on to complete the job.  This he did in sensational fashion.  Helped by three excellent close catches by Steve Phoenix, DeSalis tore through the visitors' tail to finish with figures of 1.5-0-4-5!  N.Atkinson top-scored for Hall with 16 as they were bowled out for 75.

Any doubts the visitors had about the wicket's occasional high bounce were soon dispelled as Melton knocked off the runs before tea.  They lost youngsters Toby Wyatt (15) and Joe Bickel (5) but Steve Clarke's unbeaten 39 and Skipper Howard's 16 not out saw them to a comfortable 8-wicket victory in 18 overs.
