Cs Post a Challenging Total Before the Rain!

GREAT MELTON C (8 points) had their Norfolk League Division 3 match at HINGHAM (8 points) abandoned (rain)

In common with the club's other 3 teams, Melton C's Norfolk League Division 3 game at Hingham eventually became another victim of the showery late August weather.  A downpour before the game started made an already damp pitch even wetter and it looked a good toss for Hingham skipper Danny Key to have won.  Melton inevitably found themselves batting and a weakened side got off to the worst possible start, losing David Bunn for a duck, after he hit a Dicks full toss straight to Kyle Weston at mid-off.  Although Kyle plays for Melton's U13s and has David as his coach, the youngster showed no mercy!

Clive Gristwood (5) departed soon after leaving Melton at 19-2 but Steve Clarke was showing commendable patience on the sticky pitch and Fawad Kaiser pushed the score on to 56 with a knock of 25 that included a six and 3 fours.  Aimee Palmer (1) became Steve Guy's first victim and at drinks at 25 overs Melton were struggling at 65-4.  Steve Phoenix then joined Clarke in the most productive partnership of the innings.  59 runs were added in 15 overs before Phoenix tried to sneak one risky single too many and was run out for a good 28.  With 5 overs remaining a heavy shower meant an early tea.

After tea Clarke and Connor White (8 not out) added a few more runs but the conditions were having an effect and, when White slipped going for a second run and sent back Clarke, the left hander was run out 2 short of his 50, having hit 5 fours and having batted for 44 overs.  Simon Carding went in but by the time the 45th over was bowled the rain was falling steadily again and , after waiting for ten minutes, both teams agreed no further play was possible.  Dale Weston (12-3-40-2),  Guy (8-0-28-1) and Dicks (11-0-22-1) were the Hingham wicket takers but the home side conceded 37 extras, including 26 byes.  Melton felt 152-6 would be a challenging total in the conditions but the only winner was the weather as Both teams took 8 points.
