C Team Bounce Back to Beat Lowestoft

GREAT MELTON C (26 points) beat LOWESTOFT C (2 points) by 9 wickets at Town Close in the Lucas & Fettes Norfolk League Division 6

Melton C bounced back from their first defeat of the season last week at Felthorpe to record an impressive 9-wicket win over Lowestoft C and maintain their unbeaten start at their new home, Town Close School.  A straight opening spell from Josh Mellor immediately put pressure on Lowestoft's top order batting and a wicket for him, plus two for Kyle Mason gave Melton an excellent start.Simon Brett followed with an equally tight spell aided by variable bounce off a length.  A single stump direct hit run out from Josh Mellor kept the home side in control and, with only McAvoy (16) and Thompson (22) reaching double figures, Lowestoft were bowled out for 86 in the 40th over.  On a day when 4 catches were spilled, Joe Bickel held all 4 chances offered to him, 2 of which weren't straightforward and it was young Bickel and the veteran Leo DeSalis who kept control at the end of the Lowestoft innings, bowling 15 overs for 27 runs.

The early loss of Steve Clarke lbw to last season's Division 7 bowler-of-the-year, Andy Thompson, could have led to a difficult chase for  Melton. However, Malcolm Howard continued his early season form with an increasingly fluent 46not out, including 2 sixes.  Tom Hunter carried over the form he has shown for the U15's, after an early nick behind was dropped, patiently waiting for the bad ball to punish and seeing Melton to victory with nearly 25 overs to spare.
