Craig Stars As B’s Beat Saham Toney

GREAT MELTON B (24 points) beat Saham Toney A (6 points) by 4 Wkts at Town Close School in the Lucas & Fettes Norfolk League Division 3

Great Melton B returned to Town Close after the washout the week before and continued their push for promotion with a 4-wicket win over Saham Toney A.  Winning the toss Woody Loines put the visitors into bat on a damp-looking wicket hoping his bowlers could bowl Saham out cheaply. The innings started well for Melton as Gary Coulson (12-2-22-0) bowled his normal miserly spell. Melton seemed to be in control of the game but D. Bowman soon changed all that as he batted aggressively hitting 4 fours and 2 six's in his swift 33 until he was brilliantly caught in the deep by Michael Farmer. This seemed to be the turning point for Melton as Fawad Kaiser (12-2-42-2) was brought into the attack and Jake Mardell bowled pretty well taking 3 wickets.  Youngster Craig Woolrich then bowled with good pace and discipline to clean up the tail and finish the innings with very good figures of 7.5-0-17-4, Saham Toney finishing on 126.

Melton's reply did not start well as Loines was out for a duck but a steady partnership of 39 between Neal Clarke (24) and George King (15) then steadied the innings before Clarke was out caught behind. A mini collapse the followed with Eusha Fawad (0), George King (15) and Michael Farmer (5) all departing in the space of 2 overs leaving Melton stuttering at 46-5. This then brought Jon Moxon (15) and George Ducker (31*) to the crease.  Moxon, looking positive, took the attack to the Saham bowlers and, after Moxon was dismissed, Ducker was joined by Craig Woolrich (24) and the two youngsters put on 50 for the 7th wicket taking Melton, in the end, comfortably past the winning post.
