Century Stand Not Enough as Girls Lose to Swaffham

GREAT ย MELTON U13 GIRLS lost to SWAFFHAM U13s by 4 wickets at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League

Beth Harmer scored 56 and Aimee Palmer 29 not out as Melton Girls scored an impressive 125-2 against Swaffham but it proved not to be enough as the visitors chased them down with an over to spare.

A century partnership between the two Melton girls came after Emily Grisewood had been bowled for 1 and Harmer was particularly impressive, hitting some fine shots in her half century before being stumped off the final ball of the innings. ย Palmer also grew in confidence after a run of low scores, hitting two sixes in her innings.

Harmer (2-0-13-1) then captured an early wicket but Williams (19) showed some resistance and found a willing partner in Harry Wardell. ย Wardell looked a very solid batsman and his fluent 42 put Swaffham in sight of victory. ย He was eventually out lbw to April Herathge (2-0-15-1) but Hutchinson and Friend saw the visitors home with 6 balls to spare. ย Friend's unbeaten 28 included several powerful straight fours as Swaffham totalled 129-3 to win by 4 wickets.

The Melton team was: Aimee Palmer, Beth Harmer, Emily Grisewood, Rachael Hustler, Becca Greenslade, April Herathge, Holly Matchant, Caitlin Ellis.
