C Team Outplayed at Garboldisham

Great Melton C (4 points) lost to Garboldisham B (23 points) by 8 wickets at Garboldisham in the Lucas & Fetts Norfolk League Division 5.

Melton C's first game in Division 5, following 2 successive promotions, resulted in a fairly comprehensive defeat against last season's Division 6 winners, Garboldisham B.  On a cold afternoon, after a promising opening, Melton were outplayed.  Garboldisham skipper Stuart Taylor had no hesitation in asking Melton to bat after winning the toss and it proved a wise decision.  Steve Clarke (31) and Toby Wyatt (23) added 53 for the first wicket to give Melton a solid start but it was all downhill after that!  Young off spinner Cameron Olpin produced a devastating spell of 5-21 in his 10 overs to rip out Melton's middle order and, from 75-2 at drinks Melton struggled to 131-9 with Leo DeSalis (15 not out) adding a few runs with the tail.  J.Paul (2-14) and P.Carr  (1-21) were the other wickettakers.

Although someway short of the 150 target Melton skipper Mally Howard had hoped for, he still felt his side in with a chance if they could bowl full and straight.  Unfortunately they couldn't and opener D.Moon profited, hitting a succession of loose deliveries to the boundary as he raced to 55.  DeSalis was the only Melton bowler to show any sort of control returning decent figures of 7.2-1-21-2.  Some powerful hitting from P.Morgan (44 not out) saw the home side to a comfortable victory with 8 wickets and 21 overs to spare.
