C Team Mix Youth & Experience in 10-Wicket Defeat of Hales

GREAT MELTON C (26 points) beat HALES & LODDON B (3 points) by 10 wickets at Town Close in the Lucas & Fettes Norfolk League Division 5

Unbeaten half-centuries for club stalwarts Tony Alborough and Steve Clarke helped Melton C to a convincing 10-wicket victory over Hales & Loddon B at Town Close but really it was a day when the club were grateful for the wealth of youthful talent at its disposal.  With unavailability throughout the club's 4 teams having most impact on the Cs, Manager Clive Gristwood and stand-in skipper Steve Phoenix drafted in three youngsters for their Saturday senior debuts.  Luke Marchant, Sam Carding and Connor Stearman all contributed as the visitors were bowled out for 136 in 37 overs.  Stearman took 1-20, Carding 1-7 but 12-year-old County player Marchant was probably the pick of the three, bowling 20 dot balls in his 4 overs and conceding just 9 runs as well as taking a good catch.  Another youngster, Joe Bickel achieved the best figures, though, his 9 overs of controlled leg-spin giving him 3-23.  Leo DeSalis (8-1-33-2), hampered by a back injury, took two wickets and there was one apiece for Stuart Wilson and Kevin Frazer as Hales and Loddon crumbled from 103-4 at 26 overs to 136 all out, opener M.Plummer top-scoring with 40.

Clarke and Alborough then knocked of the runs in 27.5 overs, Alborough hitting 12 fours in his 67 and his left-handed partner finding the boundary 9 times in his unbeaten 53.
