GREAT MELTON C (26 points) beat SPROWSTON C (2 points) by 9 wickets at Sprowston in the Lucas & Fettes Norfolk League Division 5

16-year-old leg spinner, Joe Bickel, took 4-20 as Great Melton C produced an excellent bowling performance to dismiss Sprowston C for just 111 in the Norfolk League Division 5 clash between the 2nd and 3rd placed sides. It set up Melton for a convincing maximum points, 9-wicket victory, with Steve Clarke (48 not out) and Tony Alborough (23) taking Melton to 94 before Alborough was bowled in the 24th over, leaving another youngster, Joe Greenslade (10 not out) to confidently hit the winning runs.

While the batsmen showed patience and compusure on quite a difficult wicket, it was the bowlers that took the plaudits. The tone for the match was set in the 2nd over when Sprowston opener Cooke was brilliantly stumped down the leg side by Clarke off the bowling of Ryan Hayward and, from that point, Melton's young bowlers never relinquished their grip. Tom Smith's opening 6 overs yielded just 9 runs and Hayward finished with figures of 12-0-34-3 to cap an excellent afternoon's work. After a 5 tight overs from Leo DeSalis, Jake Mardell and Bickel finished the job. Bickel produced his best-ever spell for the club with 8.1-1-20-4, showing excellent control, while Mardell's 10-3-21-3 was just reward for his nagging consistency.
