Right-hand batsman; Right-arm medium-fast bowler
The ‘Mann twins’, Ben & Sam, originally joined us from Cringleford at the beginning of 2003 and their outstanding talent was immediately obvious in junior cricket and in their early appearances for the senior sides. In fact Ben made rapid progress to the First Team and he was First Team Player of the Year in both 2005 and 2006 before deciding to experience Alliance cricket at Old Buckenham. In 2009 Ben took 27 wickets as Old Buckenham were champions of Division 1 of the Alliance. In 2010, he returned to Melton Park with Old Buckenham A to plunder an unbeaten century against Melton First Team. He continued among the runs and wickets and, in 2013, two further centuries followed although Ben had to content himself with mainly 2nd Team and Sunday cricket. Ben’s return to Melton in 2014 was beset by injuries. He only played 3 times in 2015, and in his first appearance of 2016, managed to break his leg whilst warming-up, however, a spectacular return to action late that summer saw Ben produce some exciting batting performances culminating in a superb 117 not out. When his duties in the A & E Department at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital have allowed, Ben’s been a first team top-order batsman ever since. A very exciting shot-maker, Ben likes to hit the ball hard and always gives the bowler a chance but, when in the groove, he is capable of taking an attack apart, which he frequently does. In 2019 Ben scored 451 runs including 2 centuries to win the First Team Player-of-the-Year Award.
