Barker’s Batting Beats the Bs

GMCC B team vs Eaton – Saturday 29nd April

Melton Bs lose to Eaton by 42 runs

Following the previous week’s dress rehearsal victory, confidence in the Melton camp heading into the game was high.

Having won the toss and elected to bowl, the Melton opening attack of C.Wright (1/30), and D.Bunn (1/26), aided by impressive fielding from Josh Wright, restricted the home sides early scoring. With the score of 23 for 2 of 13, a repeat of the previous weeks heroics was on the cards.

But with opening bat Butcher ticking along at one end, before eventually falling to Faward for 71, and Baker ending on an unbeaten 89 of the last 10 over, a score of 222 was going to serious challenge the Melton batting order.

With Bugg, Stearman, and Clarke falling early and a score of 32 for 3 off 10, the total now seemed a tall challenge.

McKay (45) and Rushton (29) dug deep to take the score to triple figures, whilst a defiant and unbeaten rear guard action between Bunn (30) and Bridges (15), took the score on to a respectable 180 of 45 overs, failing short of the total by 42.

A great effort from the team with an equal number of positives and lessons learnt taken from the game.
