Another Early Finish for the Cs as Rollesby are Dismissed for 53!

GREAT MELTON C (26 points) beat ROLLESBY A (2 points) by 7 wickets at Town Close in the Lucas & Fettes Norfolk League Division 6

For the fourth time in six matches Great Melton C bowled out their opponents for less than a hundred to record another comfortable victory – this time visitors Rollesby A succumbed for just 53 and Melton knocked off the runs in 12.1 overs!  The start of the game was delayed as a lost key meant the players could not gain access to the ground, earning manager Clive Gristwood the ‘Pants Performer' title, but once this problem was overcome, Rollesby won the toss and batted, a decision they may have had cause to regret.  Although their skipper was warned of the ‘tennis-ball-bounce' tendency of the wicket, the Rollesby batsmen seemed unnerved by this and wickets tumbled although very few – if any – were down to the wicket.  Poor shots and good bowling meant that Melton gained a firm grip on the match which they never relinquished.  Kyle Mason (5-2-14-1) broke through by having opener B.Price caught by Simon Brett at square leg and Brett bowled 4 maidens in his opening 6-over spell.  It was then left to youngsters Michael Farmer and Joe Bickel to rip the heart out of the Rollesby batting.  Farmer took 3-10 in 6 overs but it was Bickel who took the man-of-the-match plaudits with a eight-over spell of controlled leg-spin that brought him 3-14, 9 of those runs coming off his final over.  His haul also included the wicket of Rollesby's top-scorer M.Hewitt (21).  Two wickets for Leo DeSalis ensured ten-man Rollesby were all out for 53 in the 29th over.

Melton's reply started with a flurry of boundaries but, with the score on 17, Mally Howard was given out caught behind to a ball that seemed to come off his forearm.  Simon Wooldridge (4) and Simon Brett (5) were also dismissed cheaply but Steve Clarke (27 not out) and Kevin Frazer(12 not out) saw Melton to a comfortable victory and an early finish.
