An uncomfortable evening for the U9 manager !

GREAT MELTON U9s lost to TOPCROFT U9s by 36 runs at Topcroft in the South Norfolk Community League

It proved to be a bruising encounter for the under 9s!  Batting first, Gt Melton made a good start against top of the table Topcroft. Daniel Graves, Thomas Small, Harry Cheal and Blade Early batted well moving the score onto 134 for 1 after 4 overs. The home bowlers then produced bowling of great pace and accuracy to rip into the Gt Melton middle order taking 6 wickets in 2 overs. More of this top quality bowling was to follow, restricting the score to 145 for 8 (105). In his opening spell Daniel took 2 wickets and with Blade bowling well from the other end, a win seemed to be possible. In his first match for the Club, Freddie Pattison bowled accurately despite twice being hit by the ball as the Gt Melton fielders went for run outs. Isaac Ford was similarly hit by a throw from one of his team but came back from first aid treatment to complete his overs. Hugo Pattison and Oliver Wormstone came close to claiming wickets but Topcroft closed on 151 for 2 (141), winning by 36. On an evening which also saw umpire Guy McCurley hit by the bat of one of the Gt. Melton players practicing a cover drive and then falling over another player who had stooped to tie a shoe lace, this was a bruising encounter for the team.

Oliver Wormstone (C), Daniel Graves, Thomas Small, Blade Early, Harry Cheal, Hugo Pattison, Freddie Pattison. Isaac Ford
