Great Melton Cricket Club is a Norfolk village club situated 3 miles from the market town of Wymondham and 7 miles from Norwich. The club’s beautiful parkland setting is in the heart of the Norfolk countryside and the club itself is the hub of its small village community. We aim to encourage the playing of and involvement in cricket through the provision of playing and practice facilities, coaching, fixtures and social events for members of all ages and abilities and the club’s pavilion serves as village hall and a social amenity for a range of community groups, including the adjacent Bowls Club.
Great Melton currently run 16 teams: 4 Saturday teams, a Sunday team, 2 midweek teams, a Women’s Team and 8 junior sides: Under 19, Under 17, Under 15, Under 13, Under 13 Girls, Under 11, Under 11 Girls & Under 9.
Our home ground, Melton Park, has a senior pitch with new sight screens and an electronic scoreboard; a junior pitch equipped with an artificial wicket and a wooden pavilion; a two-bay artificial practice area and an excellent pavilion with kitchen, bar and clubroom. We have the use of a second pitch at the University of East Anglia Sports Ground on Colney Lane which is ‘home’ to the B & C Teams.
The Saturday 1st XI plays in Division 2 of the Norfolk Cricket Alliance and the A team in Division 5; the B and C teams compete in the Norfolk Cricket League Divisions 3SE and 4SE; the Sunday 1st Team in the Mid-Norfolk Sunday League Shield Premier Division; the Women’s Team in the NCB Shell Women’s Sunday League and the U19s in the ECB U19 T20 Competition. The club also enters 2 midweek competitions, the Hunts Bat K.O Cup and the Wicklewood Shield.
We provide coaching for well over 100 youngsters and boys and girls can start at the club as young as 5 as we participate in the ECB-sponsored All Stars and Dynamos softball cricket programmes. Once youngsters are ready for hardball games they can play in the Norfolk Cricket Alliance Junior competitions, the South Norfolk Community League and, for the U13s & U15s, in the ECB T20 Knock-Out Cup.
Great Melton is a purely amateur, recreational cricket club. All our officers and club coaches are volunteers, we’ve never hired a professional player and all our players pay a subscription and match fees to play. A Clubmark accredited Club, Great Melton is well-respected in the county and believes firmly in fair play and the Spirit of Cricket.
