Nigel Young has joined Great Melton from newly merged Ashmanhaugh & Barton Wanderers CC for the 2012 season.

Nigel, (pictured left in action for Wanderers) who played with Mark Scott & Richard Wood at Coltishall and then at Norwich & Coltishall Wanderers CC, has already made some appearances for Melton in the Mid Norfolk Sunday League, but his availability to play Alliance cricket for the club this summer is a major boost for Melton ahead of the new season.  A vastly experienced player, Nigel played for Edgworth CC in the Lancashire League during the 1980’s and early 1990’s before moving to Norfolk and joining Coltishall, where he was an integral part of its’ NCL and Alliance success in the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

Well known and respected in Norfolk cricket for his all-round ability Nigel’s performances for Wanderers in recent seasons mark him out as one of, if not their best bowler, and last summer he took 28 wickets at an average 16.7 to help Wanderers finish 5th in a very competitive Alliance Premier Division.  As a batsman his attacking and explosive style is something Melton know plenty about as he fired a rapid half century against the club during a mid-week cup competition last summer, with some powerful hitting.

A keen fisherman Nigel won’t be available for every game, but his quality and cricket “know how” will make him a real asset for the club.
