GREAT MELTON U11s beat GARBOLDISHAM U11s by 83 runs at Garboldisham in the Terry Moore Trophy
The U11s made it 7 wins out of 7 for the junior section with strong all-round performance at Garboldisham in the Alliance Terry Moore Trophy. Melton’s bowlers gave the home batsmen few scoring opportunities and, although the ‘extras’ total was a little higher than usual with 14 wides/no balls, Harry Southgate’s 4 proved to be Garboldisham’s top score as their innings crept to 243-5, a net total of 213. Captain Olly Leinster took 2-6 from his 3 overs but Charlie Green (2-1-1-1), Lohit Kannan (2-0-7-1), Holly Marchant (2-0-4-0), Sam Johnson (3-0-9-0), Kit Fordham (2-0-5-0) and Callum Sparkes (2-0-10-0) all bowled well. Ben Johnson, still an U9, did a very capable job having volunteered as a stand-in wicketkeeper.
Needing only 14 runs to win, Melton lost 2 early wickets when Holly Marchant (1) was bowled and then ran herself out but her opening partnership with Charlie Green, who scored 16, still yielded 29 runs to put Melton 3 runs ahead after the first pairing. No more wickets fell as Sam Johnson (11 not out) and Ben Johnson (5 not out) added 35, Sparkes (1 not out) and Fordham (8 not out) 18 and, last pair Leinster (16 not out) and Kannan (5 not out) 26 to give Melton a final total of 308-2, a net score of 296 and a win by the comfortable margin of 83 runs.
