GREAT MELTON U9s beat ACLE U9s by 3 runs at Melton Park in the John Dewing Competition

Captain Corey Rushton won the toss and decided to bat first against an Acle side who had won all three of their matches so far in the John Dewing trophy competition. Sam Davey and Harrison Cunningham in their first match for the Club, opened the batting and with determination set the innings off to a strong start making 14 without losing any wickets. Another debutante, William Bailey hit 6 runs and Jack Ballam ensured he also was not out. Corey and Daniel Graves pushed the score along with Gt Melton finishing on 258 for 1 (254).

Defending a low score, the team knew they would have to bowl and field well. Sam, Jack and William claimed three run outs through some sharp fielding. Harrison calmly snapped up a caught and bowled while Krishna and William each took a wicket. Ethan and Jack bowled with control and few runs were scored from their overs. The final Acle batters threatened to win the match with some very powerful hitting but two wickets in successive balls in the final over by Daniel, swung the match back in favour of Great Melton. Acle finished on 283 for 8 (251). Crucial to this win was the determination of the whole team to defend their wicket and then to bowl straight.
