GREAT MELTON U7s beat MATTISHALL U7s by 8 runs at Melton Park in a friendly match.
In a closely competed and rain interrupted match against Mattishall, the under 7s won by 8 runs. This was the second fixture between the two sides and it was evident just how much both sets of players had learnt from the earlier match.
Batting first Gt Melton made 295 for 6, a net score of 271. Blade Earley top scored with 25, while Noah Moore (11),George Alcock (10) and James Alcock (11) built what was to prove a match winning total.
Between the innings, the under 7s consumed not just their own refreshments of kitkats and twix but also those set aside for the under 9s. A timely intervention by the Chairman also prevented the bowls club buffet from being snapped up. Suitably refueled they then took the field.
Isaac Leverett bowled accurately taking 2 wickets as did George and James. Blade took 2 great catches but still the Mattishall batters closed in on a winning score. The final overs fell to the youngest players and Oscar Leivers, Nicholas Conway and Jake Canning had to bowl under pressure. Nicholas and Jake both took wickets to leave Mattishall requiring 16 off the final over. Oscar stepped up to bowl after his second ‘comfort break’ and with his best bowling this season secured the win. Mattishall finished on 303 for 10, a net score of 263.
This was yet another excellent match between the two Clubs and despite the rain much enjoyed by everyone.
