GREAT MELTON U13s beat BRADFIELD U13s by 12 runs at Melton Park in the ECB Competition
Great Melton U13s reached the second round of the ECB competition with a 12 run victory over Bradfield. Having been put in to bat by the visitors, Melton’s innings didn’t start well when Joey Greenslade was caught off the first ball of the match. Emily Reay (15) and Alex Rennie (12) worked hard to see off the opening bowlers taking the score to 38 before Alex was bowled with Emily following shortly after. Craig Attewell then hit 4 fours in his innings of 20 with Leah Brook (1) offering good support before top scorer Luke Marchant scored an excellent 30, striking 6 boundaries before having to retire. Ryan Howard (23) and Matt Rennie (3) saw out the overs as Melton reached a challenging total of 124-5. After Attewell claimed an early wicket N Papworth struck 31 (retired) with some powerful hitting to keep Bradfield in the match but Melton’s spinners Mat Rennie (4-1-12-1), Tom Moye (4-0-20-2) and Alex Rennie slowed the scoring and, with Marchant chipping in with 2 wickets (3-0-21-2), Bradfield’s inninings finished on 112-7. Melton will face Vauxhall Mallards at home in the quarter-final.
