GREAT MELTON U13s beat GREAT ELLINGHAM U13s by 54 runs at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League
Great Melton U13s made it eight wins out of eight and clinched the championship of the South Norfolk Community League with a convincing 54-run win over closest rivals, Great Ellingham. Batting first Melton scored 107-2 with Ben Carding (14) and Alex Rennie (11) giving them a good platform with 36 for the first wicket. When they were out the much-improved Craig Attewell and Fergus Hughes, promoted from the U11s, continued the good work taking the score to three figures with some well-struck boundaries and good running. Hughes struck a six over long-on in his 31 and Attewell was unbeaten on 21. J.Fuller was easily Ellingham’s best bowler with figures of 3-1-11-2.
Fuller then gave his side a good start with 3 fours in his 15 before 2 wickets in 2 balls from another U11, Craig Wilson (2-0-11-2), removed both openers, Fuller to a good catch by Matt Ling. Ben Carding (2-0-6-2) then bowled with pace to remove the Ellingham middle order before spinners Attewell (2-0-9-1), Matt Rennie (1-0-4-1) and Ling (0.5-0-4-1) completed the job. Ellingham were all out for 53 meaning Melton joined their Under 11s as South Norfolk Community League champions.
It’s been an excellent season for the U13s, managed by Duncan Greenslade and coached by Simon Carding, who were also runners-up in the Alan Bridgewater Cup and semi-finalists in the ECB competition.
