GREAT MELTON U9s beat BRADFIELD U9s by 23 runs at Bradfield in the John Dewing Competition
The under 9s recorded their 3rd win of the season, beating Bradfield by 23 runs. The home team decided to field first and Daniel Graves and Sam Davey opened the batting for Gt Melton. Facing probably the fastest bowling experienced so far this season, the pair posted 22 runs for 2 wickets. All the batters were alert to any opportunity to run a bye. William Bailey showed some powerful shots and was unlucky to be out to an excellent catch. The Bradfield bowlers were accurate through out the innings. Harrison Cunningham (5) and Sam McKay (4) were not out, taking quick singles whenever they could. Corey Rushton hit an excellent 22 not out and with partner Jamie Granville put on 40 for the last 4 overs of the innings. Gt Melton finished 295-6 a total of 271 with 4 runs deducted for each wicket.
Refuelled by a lovely snack provided by the hosts and polished off in seconds by the players, Gt Melton took the field. What had been an overcast morning now turned to persistent rain. Despite a wet ball each of the bowlers bowled accurately. Jamie and Sam D each took a wicket. William and Ethan Ellis prevented the middle order batters from scoring. As the pressure to score built, there were 4 run outs. Each of these involved some excellent work by Sam M, Daniel and Corey. Some spectacular fielding applied more pressure on Bradfield who finished on 272-6, a net score of 248. It was very pleasing to see so many aspects of the Friday coaching being applied in a match.
