Great Melton u9s (318-2) beat Garboldisham u9s (248-7) by 50 runs at Garboldisham in the South Norfolk Community League
Played under glorious blue skies, the Great Melton u9s got their season off to a flying start with a convincing win against a developing Garboldisham side. Asked to bat first, Leo Mondal and Oliver Smee got the innings off to a solid start, adding 22 for the first wicket and not losing any wickets. A lovely pull shot for 4 from Oliver was a highlight. George Dunscombe and Arlo Leeder batted well together, and with neither batsman getting out, this helps the Melton cause.
Archie McKay and Gyan Bilyard ran well between the wickets together and put on 27 for the 3rd pair, which set things up for Rupert Beasley and skipper Jack Joice to come in as the 4th pair. Jack and Rupert played some lovely shots between them, but Jack with four 4s and a towering pull shot for 6 over the mid wicket boundary was in a particularly destructive mood. Jack finished on 29 and Rupert on 10. A score of 2-318 was an excellent achievement.
Whilst the boys batted well, the strength of this team is the consistency of the bowlers, with all the boys bowling very accurately. Jack Joice had the impressive figures of 2-2–0-4 (all bowled) and Rupert had the figures of 3-1-6-3.
A final mention must also go to Gyan Bilyard who on debut as a wicketkeeper was superb, letting through only 3 byes! Melton will face tougher games this season, but this was a great way to start the season.
A special thank you to the supporters who ensured the boys were padded up and ready to bat, and to Sam McKay who scored for the entire match.
