GMCC u9s (199-6) lost to Sprowston (217-0) by 48 runs at Sprowston in the South Norfolk Community League
The U9s played Sprowston for the 2nd time in two weeks on Wednesday, this time in the latest round of the SNCL. Batting first in glorious sunshine, the Melton batters struggled against accurate Sprowston bowling. Alice Brand hit a lovely straight 4, and George Alcock was unlucky to miss out on a 50, finishing on 44 which included 10 boundaries. Melton lost six wickets in their innings, with 5 people being bowled leaving them with a net score of 169. In the break, we talked about the importance of playing with a straight bat to anything that is bowled at the stumps.
All the Melton bowlers tried their best, but were unlucky to take any wickets. Alice again bowled well and finished with 3-1-12-0. Callum Marcham was excellent behind the stumps, and despite the night getting chilly, Melton kept trying through to the end. Sprowston finished on 217-0, and ran out winners by 48 runs.
Some things we can all work on:
1. Always watch the ball when batting (to avoid being bowled), when running between wickets (to see if more runs are available) and in the field (more than one ball went for 4 past fielders who were not watching!
2. Long barriers are still the best way to stop a moving ball.
3. Keep practicing bowling at home, so we don’t give the opposition quite as many free runs in no balls and wides.
Overall, the honours were shared 1-1 over the two games with Sprowston which seemed fair. Thank you to the parents who helped out with scoring etc.
