Melton U13s just got the better of Norwich in great game of cricket in the Alan Bridgewater competition. The weather was kind on the third time of trying to get this game on so, on a sunny morning at Melton, the boys won the toss and elected to bat.
Norwich bowled well and Melton found themselves in unfamiliar territory at 30-2. However first Corey Rushton (30*) and then Odin Thomas (31*) batted sensibly to retire before Daniel Graves (9*) and Noah Moore (8*) completed the 16 overs with a score of 115-2.
Having posted some hefty scores themselves this season, the Melton fielders knew that this was an achievable total and set about planning a bowling attack. This looked like it was working when the 2 openers were out early on. Flynn Crossthwaite took the early wicket of Jack Livermore (1) caught behind by Noah and then Odin bowled Charlie Dunham (8). However, Enoch Uthayarajan looked like he might spoil Melton’s 100% start to the season with a well-crafted 31 before having to retire. Two wickets for Corey (including a stumping by Noah) and one for James plus some tight bowling by Daniel, Harry Cheal and Adithya Velu meant that Norwich fell 22 runs short at the end of their innings.
