GREAT MELTON U13s beat GREAT ELLINGHAM U13s by 5 wickets at Great Ellingham in the Alan Bridgewater Trophy
Melton U13s cemented their place at the top of Alan Bridgewater Group 1 with a comfortable victory of Great Ellingham. Having won the toss and elected to field first, Olly Leinster’s bowlers served him well as the home side were bowled out for just 47. Charlie Green (3-2-3-1), Olly Black (3-1-8-1), Lohit Kannan (2-1-1-2) and Jack Gorman (2-0-8-1) reduced Ellingham to 5-4 and, although Arran Draper’s 10 not out helped them partially recover, Melton’s bowlers kept the pressure on with Ethan Rushton (2-1-7-1) also grabbing a wicket as Ellingham struggled to 47.
Rebecca Greenslade and Black then scored over half the runs before the 5th over was complete but, after some good shots, Black fell to a superb catch by Amber Thompson for 12. Ethan Rushton was run out for 6 but Greenslade struck some powerful boundaries in her 19 not out and hit the winning run in the 9th over.
Both teams then agreed to continue the match and bowl the remaining 7 overs giving a few more players a full game, allowing Charlie Green (23 retired) to show his undoubted batting talents and Oli Leinster (8 not out) and Nat Buxton (7 not out) to play entertaining cameos as the score progressed to 102-2. Amber Thompson was the most impressive of the Ellingham bowlers with 3-0-9-0.
The victory was Melton’s third in the Aliance competition but with matches against Swardeston A & B still to come sterner tests are in store!
