GREAT MELTON U13s beat ROCKLANDS U13s by 75 runs at Rocklands in the Alan Bridgewater Cup
Melton proved too strong for gallant Rocklands in the Alliance’s Alan Bridgewater Competition, recording a convincing 75-run victory. Saxon Earley and James Bridges gave Melton the best possible start, their partnership of 71 a combination of powerful striking and excellent running between the wickets. Fielders are always kept on their toes when Saxon is batting and he was the first to retire unbeaten on 33 with James (29) following two overs later. James Carter then added 19 before 3 wickets in the final over gave Rocklands some success. Melton’s score of 125-3 looked a good one though.
Rocklands skipper Andrew Thresh hit some terrific shots, particularly 2 late cuts for four, but when a ball from James Carter bounced higher than he expected he could only loop a catch to Olly Black and was out for 20. James (3-2-0-2), brother Matt (3-0-18-2) and Finlay Hughes (2.4-2-0-2) all captured 2 wickets apiece as Rocklands were dismissed for 50. Olly Black (2-0-7-0) and Kai Wilkinson-Loines (2-0-7-0) also bowled well while the fielding, as it was the previous night at Ashmanhaugh, was of a high standard.
