The U13s moved confidently into the semi-finals of the Alliance Alan Bridgewater competition by beating Fakenham by 87 runs at Town Close.
Melton skipper, Corey Rushton, lost the toss but the team were very happy to be put into bat. Corey and Flynn Crosthwaite opened the batting and got off to a steady start against a lively opening bowling partnership with Corey playing an anchor role whilst Flynn punished anything short to keep the boundaries ticking. Corey soon found his stride and the pair put on an opening partnership of 60 before Flynn was bowled for 24. Ben Gaskin joined Corey and they continued to score well before Corey retired on 32*. Ben (20*) and Harrison Cunningham (23*) put pressure on the fielders with some great running between the wickets, regularly turning 1s into 2s as Melton finished on a score of 126-1.
Some excellent bowling and tight fielding by the Melton boys restricted the visitors to 39 all out with Sam Davey’s leg side takes limiting the byes to just a single. Two wickets for Harrison and Ben and one for Daniel Graves, Odin Thomas and Will Bailey accounted for the dismissals. These included two catches for Ben and one each for Harrison and Corey to top off a great team performance and a good win.
