GREAT MELTON U13s beat LOWESTOFT U13s by 41 runs at Denes Oval in the E.C.B National Competition
A convincing 41-run victory over Lowestoft took Great Melton U13s into the Norfolk Semi-Final of the E.C.B. National Competition where they will meet either Sheringham or Brooke.
Melton won the toss and chose to bat first with Ryan Howard and Fergus Hughes opening. They started very steadily and moved the score onto 50 by the 8th over with some positive batting. Howard then reached 30 not out and had to retire which brought in Tom Moye. Hughes was then run out just before he had to retire for 28. Melton lost a couple of quick wickets: Moye (3) run out with a direct hit, and Ling caught and bowled by Hutchinson for 1. This then brought Pat Walton and Aimee Palmer to the crease with 5 overs to go. With some very good shots they added another 47 runs in the last 5 overs which included a 6 from Palmer (17 not out). Walton was also unbeaten on 19 as Melton totalled 144-3.
Lowestoft started positively, reaching 22 before the first wicket went down; Keeble bowled by Palmer for 10. This brought out Owen who, with Knights, put on another 40 before Knights was bowled by Walton for 19. Lowestoft then lost another 4 batsmen for just 18 runs, with wickets for Finlay Hughes, Walton and two for Ling in the same over which included Owen for 29. Lowestoft managed another 23 runs for the loss of Wells, bowled by Richards for 6 but they ran out of overs, finishing on 103-7.
