GREAT MELTON U13s beat GARBOLDISHAM U13s by 3 wickets at Melton Park in the Alan Bridgewater Cup
The U13s followed up the U11s victory over Garboldisham the previous night with another win against Melton’s South Norfolk rivals. In the pre-match warm-up an injury to wicketkeeper Kai Wilkinson-Loines meant that Fergus Hughes took the gloves and Finlay Hughes was drafted in to play. The visitors batted first and T. Culling (19) and G.Southgate (17) played some good shots but Melton’s accurate and varied attack gives little away and there is no respite for opposing batsmen. Craig Wilson (3-0-11-2) and Pat Walton (3-06-1) were particularly effective and Tom Moye pouched a good caught-and-bowled chance as Garby were restricted to 80-5 from their 16 overs.
Melton lost Kyle Weston (5) run out with the score on 10 but Moye (10) and Luke Richards (14) played positively hitting 5 boundaries between them before both fell to Southgate (3-0-15-2) to leave the match in the balance with Melton 40-3. Hughes and Walton played beautifully, though, dispatching any bad balls – and a few good ones – to the boundary as Melton reached their victory target in the 9th over with Hughes unbeaten on 26 and Walton 14.
It was another good performance from the U13s as Melton juniors extended their unbeaten record to 8 games.
