The U13s continue their good run in the SNCL beating Mundford by 67 runs at Melton Park. Melton won the toss and ‘captain-for-the-evening’ Flynn Crosthwaite elected to bat. Openers, Flynn and Noah Moore got the innings off to a good start with a 4 from the first ball but the home team found themselves 11-1 after Flynn was caught out by team mate Corey Rushton (standing in for the opposition who only had 7 players). The visitors soon took the 2nd wicket, bowling Noah for 10. Sam Davey and Dylan Crawley put on a partnership of 44 before Dylan was eventually caught and bowled for 6 having scored a delightful boundary, hit back over the bowler’s head. Sam went on to score 31 but fell short of his retirement by a fantastic run out. This left George Woodcock and Adithya Velu at the crease. George (who had been only scoring in 4s) was eventually run out for 21 attempting a quick 2 runs and Adithya was bowled for 13. Odin Thomas and Benedict Bailey steered the final score to 131 – both not out at the end of the innings.
Mundford started in a similar vein to Melton – scoring a 4 from the first ball of their innings and, for the first couple of overs, looked to be keeping up with the required rate. However, Flynn took the wicket of opener Oliver Long in the 3rd over – an excellent catch behind the stumps by Sam then the same combination ran out the other opener, T.Ricard for 20. The run rate slowed slightly but Mundford continued to bat well scoring with some well struck boundaries. However 3 stumpings for Sam (1 off Noah and 2 off Dylan) plus a wicket for Adithya restricted the visitors to 64 all out.
