GREAT MELTON U13s beat SWARDESTON U13s by 106 runs at Hilltops in the Alan Bridgewater Cup
Great Melton U13s produced a powerful all-round performance to sweep aside Swardeston B at Hilltops, scoring 150-4 before bowling out their opponents for 44. Charlie Green and Saxon Earley led the way with a superb partnership for the 4th wicket with Green outscoring his skipper with some delightful shots. The partnership also featured some very good running between the wickets. Green hit 5 fours before retiring having scored 32 while Earley retired shortly afterwards having also scored 32, an innings that included a six and 4 fours. Until the pair came together the sides looked evenly matched with Lohit Kannan (9), Ben Granville (13) and Josh Wright (6) all scoring quickly, then getting out to leave Melton at 33-3 off 5 overs. After Green and Earley completed their innings’ Ollie Black confirmed his improvement as a batsman with a stylish 10 not out to take Melton to 150. Tommy Chambers (3-0-21-1) and Siggy Sorboen (3-0-15-1) were the best of the Swardeston bowlers.
Swardeston’s reply started slowly against the accurate bowling of Green (2-0-6-0) and Granville (2-0-2-0). Wright bowled Potter for nought and Black (2-0-3-2) removed Reynolds (5) and Chambers (16) in the same over, to leave the home side at 22-3 with half the overs gone. With the field in stopping the singles, Melton kept the pressure on the Swardeston batsmen. There were two run outs by Wright before Ethan Rushton completed a comprehensive victory with 2 wickets in 2 balls, both stumped by Earley. Swardeston were all out for 44 to give Melton a 106-run victory, their fourth in four Alan Bridgewater matches.
