Great Melton U11s best Great Ellingham by 29 runs in the South Norfolk Community League. Melton batted first and scored 108-3 with George Alcock retiring on 38. Charlie Hosmer captained the team and had a great innings of 23 while Evan Mercer scored 10 not out and Jake Canning 7 not out. Gt Ellingham bowled well taking 3 wickets and keeping the ‘extras’ column to 24.

Sammy opened the bowling for Melton with a Maiden over and his bowling figures were excellent with Great Ellingham only getting 6 runs from his 3 overs. Jake Tomkins first over was also a maiden and he only conceded 14 runs from his 3 overs. Wickets were hard to come by, though, with Charlie Hosmer and Evan Mercer taking the only two to fall but Melton worked hard in the field and wicketkeeper George Alcock saved lots of wides and no balls becoming runs. The result was that Ellingham were restricted to 79-2.

It was a good game of cricket on a lovely sunny morning but there is still room for improvement particularly in the bowling as Melton gave away 41 runs in wides and no balls. Mark Hosmer kept score and provided some delicious brownies and James Alcock was umpire for the first time and did an excellent job.
