On a beautiful sunny morning at the picturesque ground of Old Buckenham our U11s knew they needed a top performance as their opponents had won all their previous matches with the maximum points possible.
Old Bucks won the toss and chose to bat – so Melton set their field and were off. The taking of wickets was evenly spread throughout, the opening bowlers Alice Brand and Ben Tree (on debut) took 3 wickets between them . Sammy Belderson produced the best bowling figures of 2.2-1-6-2. Melton produced an all-round improved bowling display in this match, backed up by a good field with George Alcock taking a great one handed catch and 2 stumpings. Ansh Thakur bowled very well taking 1 wicket and Old Buckenham only scored 3 runs from his 2 over while Evan Mercer, who is a consistently strong all-rounder, took a wicket with his first ball. The Old Buckenham innings ended with a total of 63-7.
Melton’s reply started badly with the early loss of George and Ben. However, captain Charlie Hosmer then got his team back on track before he too succumbed to the accurate Bucks’ bowlers. Evan (19*) and Jake (5*) then starred in a great unbeaten partnership to see Melton over the line with 4 wickets in hand.
