Run ends at Quater final stage for Midweek Marauders

Great Melton lost to Swardeston by 7 Wickets in the Bernard Matthews Trophy.

ย

Gt. Meltonโ€™s midweek team travelled the short distance to Hilltops to face Swardeston in the Quarter final Match in the Bernard Matthews Trophy.

Richard Waddell won the toss and decided to make first use of a decent looking batting track.

Unfortunately the Visitors were faced with the prospect of Norfolk bowlers Michael Eccles and Sam Thelwell. With poor light not helping their cause, on a day more akin to April than July, Melton struggled to keep the board ticking and although they saw off Eccles spell for the loss of only one wicket it was the change bowler B. Singleton that changed the course of the game taking 4-10 in 3 overs.

With the damage done the visitors did what they could to get some sort of score on the board for the bowlers to bowl at with only Jonathan Ellse (20) and Jack Pearse (11) getting into double figures, the innings fizzling out on 74-9 form their 16 overs.

Swardestonโ€™s reply got off to a rapid start with young spin bowler Alex Rennie, having his first taste of EAPL standard of cricket, taking the brunt of the onslaught going for 39 in his 3 overs.

Skipper Waddell looked more like the bowler of last year taking advantage of the extra pace and bounce in the wicket, taking an early wicket for his die ct behind by Matt Clarke.

Ben Mann and Neal Clarke did both have success in their only overs, with the latter having J. Elliott (31) smartly stumped by M. Clarke, taking a wicket each but there was only one outcome with the hosts crossing the finish line with 8 overs to spare.
