GREAT MELTON U11s lost to TOPCROFT U11s by 7 runs at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League

Bowling first, Great Melton made Topcroft work hard for their runs. Pick of the bowlers were Matthew Carter (2-0-2-1) and Finlay Hughes (3-1-4-0) though only 5 wides were bowled throughout. The fielding standard was generally high with one full length dive by Ezra Leverett that prevented a boundary being outstanding. Top Topcroft batsman O Shippam played a well balanced innings of 33 not out, being patient against tight Melton bowling and punishing anything loose. Topcroft finished on 80-2 from their 16 overs.

The Great Melton reply lacked the calm that O Shippam had displayed. After the first over had accrued 11 runs, the second over led to both Finlay Hughes and skipper Patrick Walton being bowled by the┬ábest of the Topcroft bowlers, Jack Day. Frenetic batting continued with wickets falling regularly until 35-5 was reached after 7 overs. With the game seemingly slipping away tamely, a partnership by Josh Wright and Will Singleton began to steady the innings. Aided by wayward Topcroft bowling (27 runs in no balls and wides) the score climbed. When Ezra Leverett joined Josh they patiently kept building the total, playing out maidens to Day and Shippam while hitting runs off easier bowling. With 7 runs needed off 7 balls Josh Wright holed out to Jack Day to end an exciting morning’s cricket at 73 all out.
