GREAT MELTON U9s beat HORSFORD U9s by 2 runs at Horsford in the John Dewing Trophy.
Gt Melton under 9s completed their involvement in the John Dewing Trophy competition with a win by 2 runs against Horsford at Manor Park. Batting first, Great Melton made 270 for 4 (250 net). Holly Marchant and Becky Greenslade opened with an excellent 16 without loss in their 4 overs. Jack Rooney and Mark Attfield played with great determination to avoid losing their wickets. Ben Johnson playing in his first match opened the bowling with great composure and at the age of 7 is the youngest ever debutante for the club. Pressure was maintained on the Horsford batsmen by excellent fielding by Oliver Black and Charlie Green. Two of the three wickets taken were run outs with the throw ins coming from Ben Johnson and Holly Marchant. With the home team closing in on the Great Melton score, Mark Attfield, Oliver Black and Sam Johnson bowled their overs with accuracy and control, Horsford finishing on 263 for 3 (248 net). This was their second win in the 6-match competition which saw 15 under 9s experience and enjoy competitive cricket for the first time.
