After two abortive attempts to get a team out for the Wensum Cup, and so having to withdraw from the competition, Melton’s midweek A team finally got on the pitch last week.
In a successful first outing the team faced local rivals Eaton at CNS school and came out winners by 13 runs in the Wicklewood Shield fixture. Batting first Melton’s innings never really caught light but Daryl Godbold with 30, Jon Moxon (20) and Neal Clarke (19*) helped post a total of 113-5 off the allotted 20 overs. This looked on the low side on a decent track although the large pitch meant boundaries were hard to come by.
Kyle Mason (1-22) and Gary Coulson (1-25) kept the brakes on the Eaton reply but Michael Barker looked in good form for the hosts. It was the change bowlers who turned the game Melton’s way with Stuart Wilson producing a great spell of 3-10 from his 4 over stint. He was well supported by Tom Moye who took the crucial wicket of Barker for 45 in his 3-31 spell. Neal Clarke (2-5) mopped up he tail and so now the team look forward to a fixture against Wicklewood at Melton Park.
