GREAT MELTON beat ACLE by 3 wickets at Acle in the Norfolk Alliance Division 3

Melton finished a solid season with a well earned 3 wicket win against Acle ‘A’. Having been put into bat, the home side scored 204, which looked likely to be a challenging total on a wicket that seemed to be suffering from the rigours of a long season. The consequential low and slow conditions made scoring very difficult and made P Munford’s 75 not out in the middle of the Acle innings all the more impressive. He was one of only a small number of batsmen who seemed to come to terms with the conditions. The best performance with the ball came from Melton’s allrounder Paul Stearman, who took 4-40 from his 9 overs which was a very good end to an impressive season for him.

Melton’s response was once again dominated by Benn Mann who rescued his team from a relative crisis of 74 for 5 He was to supply another of his trademark fearless innings where he barely mishit a shot all afternoon, much to the frustration of some of Acle’s attack. He departed on 59, to leave Nick MacKenzie to steer Melton to the victory total with 39 not out. MacKenzie had played with similar fluency to Mann, to leave him with happy batting memories to dwell upon during the close season.

On a personal note, can I thank Ollie Harris for all of his hard work during the season. It is not easy to captain a team. It has been a really enjoyable season and it is to be hoped he will consider doing it again next year.
