Great Melton’s junior cricket coaching programme swings back into action this Friday 24th April, weather permitting. The sessions are at Melton Park from 6.30-8.00 p.m. Once again the Friday sessions are open to boys aged from 7-13 (School years 2-8) and girls/women of any age.
Coaching sessions for Under 17s and U15s (School Years 9-13), plus invited girls, officially begin on Tuesday 28th April. The fees are:
- Junior subscription = £5.00
- Junior coaching fee (U06-U13, plus Women & Girls) = £25. There are reductions for other full-fee-paying youngsters from the same family.
- Junior Coaching fee (U14-U17) = £12.50.
The difference in coaching fee for the older juniors is because there will be a slightly reduced coaching programme on Tuesday evenings. The increased number of fixtures mean some have had to be arranged for Tuesday evenings plus exam & other school commitments mean that our older youngsters are likely to attend fewer sessions. U17s, students and the unemployed already pay a £17.50 subscription (instead of the full senior subscription of £35) so this reduction for the U15s simply brings them into line with the other older juniors.
Youngsters will need to be registered at their first session. Registration forms will be available on the night. Once a young player is registered, parents automatically become social members of the club and are able to enjoy the club facilities (including barbecue & bar). Other supporters/relatives can also become a Non-Playing (Social) Members for £10.
The coaching is undertaken by Great Melton’s own team of 16 ECB qualified coaches, supported by parents or older juniors, many of whom accumulate hours towards the ECB V-Award scheme. Two of our young coaches Hannah Brook and George Bunn have already achieved over 100 voluntary hours.
Our programme is also supplemented by specialist sessions on, for example, wicketkeeping, spin bowling or fast bowling taken by ECB Level 3 coaches like Peter Hunt, Ryan Findlay and Aaron Watson. On 8th May there is a special treat for the girls with specialist fielding & England Women’s coach, Cookie Patel, visiting Melton Park.
