Right-hand batsman; Wicketkeeper (Occasional)
Having originally played for St.Andrews for many years, Jason followed brother Lee to Great Melton in 2001. He has since proven to be one of Melton’s most reliable and consistent top-order batsman. He has now scored more than 7000 runs, that includes 5 centuries and a top score of 111, figures that put him in the top 10 of all-time run-scorers at the club. His First Team career seemed to peak in 2010 when he was part of Mark Scott’s NCA Division 4 championship side and, having dropped down to the A Team in 2011, he was instrumental in the their promotion, scoring 701 runs at an average of 58 to win the Player of the Year trophy. However, halfway through 2012 he was back in the First Team, scoring 102 in a club record 3rd wicket partnership of 233 with Richard Wood and he remained in the Firsts until 2017. While his batting may lack the flair and flamboyancy of some, he is Melton’s Mr Consistency and will continue to enjoy steadily accumulating runs for the A Team. With son, Louis, part of the junior section, Jason’s stated wish to get a bit more involved in the coaching side of the club may well come to fruition. He’s been a regular member of the ‘tour party’ in the past, where his footballing pedigree has undoubtedly contributed to a consistent run of ‘“old gits” victories.
