GREAT MELTON U11s beat MULBARTON U11s by 14 runs at Orchard Park in the South Norfolk Community League
James Carter had a debut to remember for Great Melton U11s with a hat-trick and figures of 4-3 as Melton moved a step closer to the South Norfolk Community League championship with a 14-run victory over closest rivals Mulbarton. In a low-scoring match Melton, minus five of their regular SNCL players, struggled with the bat on a damp wicket. Tom Moye (9) and Kyle Weston (8) failed to build on solid starts and the other batsmen were largely restricted to a few ones and twos but, helped by ‘extras’ Melton struggled to 58-5 in their 16 overs. Mulbarton skipper Dan Phillips was their most impressive bowler, his 3 overs costing just 1 run but there were two wickets for Matthew Bruton (2-0-9-0) and one each for Thorpe, Morton, R.Phillips and Ames.
With a small total to defend Melton knew they had to bowl well but Max Beckett (2-0-3-0), Josh Moore and Kyle Weston (2-0-3-0) did just that restricting the home side to 12 off the first 6 overs before the introduction of James Carter into the attack turned the game. In his first over he bowled Webster before, in his second, he removed Thorpe, Bruton & R.Phillips in successive balls to complete a superb debut hat-trick. Dan Phillips played some excellent shots in his 18 to keep his side in the game but Moore (3-0-10-1) removed him with a superb caught and bowled before Tom Moye (2.4-0-8-2) claimed the final two wickets as Mulbarton were bowled out for 44.
