GREAT MELTON C (26 points) beat HETHERSETT & TAS VALEY C (4 points) by 151 runs at Town Close in the Norfolk League Division 3W
A maiden half-century from Imaad Khalid and career-best figures of 4-39 by Stuart Wilson helped Melton’s resurgent C Team to a convincing 151-run victory over second-placed Hethersett & Tas Valley B. The visitors, who had only lost once all season – in their opening fixture – and had posted some big scores in recent weeks, were left needing to score in excess of 200 but fell a long way short in the face of some excellent bowling from skipper Simon Carding (3-27) and the developing Wilson who finished with 4-39 off 12 probing overs.
Melton C’s biggest-ever win was set up by two excellent partnerships at the start of the afternoon. Imaad (55) settled quickly into his new surroundings, his innings containing two sumptuously well-timed cover drives, while Fergus Hughes (41), batting with a plaster cast covering his fractured right arm, helped put on 55 for the 2nd wicket after Steve Clarke had departed early. Tony Alborough (27) and Imaad then added a further 59 in the next 12 overs. At 177 in the 40th over, Steve Phoenix then swashbuckled and scampered his way to 31 not out, including a trade-mark six over mid-wicket, as he and Leo deSalis took the total to 222-7 at the close.
Only T.Henderson with 32 offered any real resistance as the visitors were skittled for just 71 in reply with Steve Clarke adding two very smart stumping and a another catch to his growing haul of victims. Desalis took two late wickets but the bowling honours very much belonged to Wilson and Carding.
