Great Melton U11s lost to Rocklands U11s by 8 wickets at Rocklands in the South Norfolk Community League
With the team performing brilliantly in the Terry Moore Trophy, manager Paul Stearman used the South Norfolk Community League game against Rocklands as an opportunity to give some of the squad players a game. George Steward, Josh Moore and Ben Bailey all came into the team but, unfortunately, having been asked to bat, Melton produced their worst batting display of the season. With leading batsmen Ryan Howard (run out) and Fergus Hughes (bowled) dismissed inside 3 overs, Melton plummeted to 15-5 until Logan Stearman, showing commendable application, scored an unbeaten 15 to take Melton to a 16-over total of 36-6. Rocklands bowled particularly well with M.Hendrie the pick, taking 2-7 from his 3 overs. N.Coates (1-4), J.Walker (1-5) and O.Kerrison (1-2) were also most economical and effective in their 2 overs apiece. Melton needed to bowl and field well but, unusually for the U11s, there were 9 wides, gifting the home side 18 runs. Melton just didn’t have enough runs on the board and they couldn’t dislodge Rocklands’ openers Hendrie (3*) and Kerrison (13*) who took their side to a convincing win in the 11th over.
