Gt Melton U9s lose to Horsford

GREAT MELTON U9s lost to HORSFORD U9s by 42 runs at Melton Park in the John Dewing Competition

Winning the toss, team captain Daniel Graves put the visitors in to bat. The openers were restricted to 12 runs off 4 overs, with accurate bowling by Oliver Wormstone, Finlay Sutton and Dylan Crawley. However it was not until the 10th over that Daniel took the first wicket. Harry Cheal had another impressive match as wicket keeper. ย George Ryan, Blade Earley and Dylan made important stops to restrict the free scoring Horsford batters. Finlay and Oliver picked up a wicket each and Horsford closed on 300 for 3 (288).

The Great Melton batsmen struggled against accurate and well pitched-up bowling. ย Noah Moore showed determination during his innings, the top scorer was Daniel with 10 runs and the shot of the match wasย a cover drive by Harry Cheal but there are plenty of things for the U9s coaches to work on: running and calling, backing-up etc. Great Melton finished on 266 for 5 (246), losing to the better team on the night by 42 runs.
