Melton’s junior coaching programme got off to a great start on Friday with 104 youngsters, 75 boys & 29 girls, attending the first session.  A resplendent Melton Park was buzzing with activity as the club’s team of 14 ECB qualified coaches and 4 young coaching assistants got to work.

Parents were able to relax and enjoy a beer and barbecue but there was no relaxing for Steve Clarke, Jill Hustler and Celia Phoenix who coped admirably with the registration process.

With over 30 already in Guy McCurley’s U9s group there is only scope for a few more registrations before the club will have to set up a ‘waiting list’ for new memberships so no time to lose if you want to join!

Melton’s coaching programme has been further boosted by a grant of £1892 from Saffron Community Foundation towards coaching equipment and a visit on May 7th and 8th by Cookie Patel, the ECB Women’s Fielding Coach, ECB Regional Training Manager and coach at Derbyshire CCC.  Cookie will hold a coaching workshop at Wymondham College on Thursday 7th (6.00-9.30) and will coach Melton’s girls on Friday 8th.  The workshop is open to coaches from other clubs.
