As you know from the pre-season newsletter and previous emails, Great Melton is celebrating 40 Years this Summer and the weekend of 27th-29th June has been designated the Anniversary Weekend. A Beer Festival will take place over that weekend, with a bumper barbecue and live music on Saturday night followed by a cricket match on the Sunday between a team of ex-Melton legends and current members.
The itinerary for the weekend is:
- Friday 27th June: Normal junior coaching, summer barbecue & Beer Festival
- Saturday 28th June: Matches V Acle at home (1st Team), Rocklands away (A Team), Kirkley & Lowestoft Railway at home (B Team) and Eaton away (C Team) followed by the main Beer Festival evening, including a ‘meat feast’ of a barbecue (there will be vegetarian options too!) and music by the fabulous ‘Cream Horns’, with our own wicket-keeping superhero, Simon Woods, on lead guitar.
- Sunday 29th June: U11s V Swaffham at 10.00 a.m. followed by a Melton Present V Melton Past ‘Legends’ Cricket Match, starting at 1.30 p.m. when a host of well known faces from the past 40 years will be making a welcome return to Melton Park. There will also be a ‘guest’ appearance from Nicholas Evans-Lombe the owner of our beautiful ground.
Our Social/Fundraising committee is organising the event and have asked me to contact you with the attached poster (same poster but in PFD & JPEG format). Your support is essential if the weekend is to be a success so please put the dates in your diaries and mention it to friends and relatives. All are welcome and it would be great to see as many of you – seniors, juniors, parents, ex-players, friends, Great Melton residents – as possible over the weekend. Saturday night is strictly ‘ticket only’ so please buy your tickets (£8 seniors, £6 juniors) well in advance from Richard Waddell, Neal Clarke or me.
The final celebration of our 40 Years will be at the end of the season when we hope as many players and ex-players as possible will gather for a special 40th Anniversary Celebration Evening at Bunkers Bar, Dunstan Hall on Saturday 27th September. Further details of this event will be issued later but, for now, we are concentrating on the last weekend in June – and it’s only 6 weeks’ away! Don’t be disappointed…get your tickets NOW!
