GREAT MELTON U13 GIRLS lost to OLD BUCKINGHAM by 3 runs at Melton Park in the South Norfolk Community League

Melton Girls lost their first match of the season  against Old Buckenham. Strong bowling from Lucy Morton gave Melton a promising start and there was a run out in the first over following Alice Greenslade’s throw to her sister Becca. Holly Marchant bowled strongly and only conceded 8 runs off her 3 overs. Two more wickets fell to April Herathge and Beth Harmer, Herathge bowling danger batter Jade Hoyte. There was some good fielding from Megan Ellse and Cassie Mawby.

Melton batted well with Rebecca Greenslade using her new bat  to score 12 runs before dragging onto the stumps. April Herathge was then run out for a good 19. Things were looking touch and go when Holly Marchant was bowled first ball, however Lucy Morton and Beth Harmer started building a partnership.  With 3 overs left and needing 30 runs Beth Harmer decided to go for it and hit a big six to relieve the pressure however Melton still fell 3 runs short.

The girls did well for the first match of the season together, however, it was a shame we couldn’t repeat our win from last year. Thanks must go out to Richard Mawby who helped score and Joey Greenslade for umpiring both innings even after a day revising for exams.
