GREAT MELTON U9s list to SWARDESTON U9s by 62 runs at Swardeston in the John Dewing Competition
Our 3rd match in 4 days saw the under 9s come up against a strong Swardeston side who batted first and made 308 for 2 (300). The runs conceded did not reflect the effort put in by the Great Melton fielders who stopped many more runs with various parts of their bodies. Sam McKay and James Alcock both took wickets. Oliver Wormstone bowled with familiar pace. Wicket keeper Harry Cheal had another fine match and Tommy Elliot made several run saving stops.
Faced with a large score to beat, our batters set about the task with great energy. The pressure to take every available run, resulted in some exciting cricket but also 4 run outs! Sam top scored with 11 and on his debut for the Club, Hugo Pattison made 8. Benedict Bailey and Finley Sutton did all they could against the accurate Swardeston bowling. The innings closed on 270 for 8 (238), a heavy defeat but as always, a fun and frantic spectacle.
