Great Melton U11s beat Diss U11s by 53 runs at Diss in the Terry Moore Trophy
Melton’s Under 11s made it four wins out of four in the Terry Moore Trophy with a convincing 53-run victory at Diss. A disciplined bowling and fielding performance, led by Luke Marchant who took 4-9 in his 3 overs, saw 10 Diss wickets fall for 270 runs, a net score of 220. Payne (18) and Browne (9) were the home side’s most successful batsmen but Craig Wilson (2-1-1-2), Ryan Howard (3-1-21-1), Fergus Hughes (2-0-12-1) and the speedy and accurate Marchant ensured Melton would not be chasing a big total. They were helped by a good performance and an excellent diving catch by Logan Stearman in his first attempt at wicketkeeping, other fine catches by Tom Moye and Arvind Shanmugan and 2 run outs.
A heavy shower delayed Melton’s reply and it eventually got underway in damp and dismal conditions. The first pairing of Shanmugan and Wilson were dismissed 3 times but Moye (4 n.o.) and Stearman (15 n.o.) batted very well to add 28. Marchant (13) and Howard (11 n.o.) continued the good work and Hughes hit some stylish shots in his 22, despite the fading light, as Melton reached 303-6, a net score of 273.
