Great Melton U11s lost to Swardeston U11s by 71 runs at Melton Park in the Terry Moore Trophy
After 9 straight wins, Melton’s U11s met their match in the final group match of the Terry Moore Trophy, going down to a strong Swardeston side. In the end it was a heavy 71-run defeat but, in truth, Melton made their opponents a little nervous with their usual excellent bowling and fielding display. Tom Moye (3-0-15-2), Ryan Howard (3-0-15-1), Luke Marchant (3-0-21-1), Craig Wilson (2-0-10-1) and Arvind Shanmugam (2-0-13-1) plus run outs by Howard and wicketkeeper Logan Stearman ensured that Swardeston lost 8 wickets in scoring 303, a net score of 263. A Cooper (28) top-scored for the visitors with good support from Duffy (14), Grisley (10) and Flatt (10*). Melton’s batting, however, did not match their bowling. They too lost 8 wickets but, against the most accurate bowlers they have faced all season, it was a real struggle to score runs. Skipper Ryan Howard’s 4 not out was the best batting performance but all the batsmen struggled to muster any attacking shots. Flatt took 4-9 to complete a good performance from him while B.Watson took 3 wickets for 0 runs as Melton finished on 232-8, a net score of 192.
Despite the defeat Melton have won 7 matches out of 8 in the competition and must stand a good chance of qualifying for the knock-out stages.
