GREAT MELTON U11s beat GARBOLDISHAM U11s by 98 runs at Garboldisham in the South Norfolk Community League.

Finlay Hughes scored his first half century as Great Melton’s U11s totalled an imposing 133-3 in their South Norfolk Community League game at Garboldisham.  The home side were struggling and only had 6 players so there were plenty of gaps in the field even though Melton lent them a fielder.  However, it should take nothing away from Hughes’ fine effort.  He figured in partnerships of 39 with Jack Gorman (13) and 41 with Josh Wright (15), hitting 8 fours and a six in his unbeaten 51 before retiring.  Patrick Walton added 23 not out in Melton’s large total but the home side worked hard to secure 3 wickets, I.Nunn (1-23), D.Thorne (1-43) and Z.Petit (1-22) the successful bowlers.

Garboldisham  made no real attempt to chase Melton’s total but skipper David Thorne resisted stubbornly batting for the whole 16 overs for 14 as his team finished on 35-1.  Melton bowled only 4 wides in the match and Walton (2-0-6-0), Ezra Leverett (2-0-9-0), Will Singleton (2-0-3-0), James Carter (3-1-6-0), Matthew Carter (3-0-4-1) and Gorman (2-0-4-0) returned impressive figures while Hughes didn’t concede a run in his 2 overs.  Jack Gorman completed an excellent match by taking a superb catch while Wright continues to improve behind the stumps.
